Evangeline Lilly & Dominic Monaghan: Still Together!
Lost stars and lovebirds Evangeline Lilly and Dominic Monaghan enjoy Las Vegas together on Friday night (July 10) with Dominic’s parents, Maureen and Austin.
The couple, who had a very public break-up in 2007, has kept a low-profile since getting back together in 2008. Evangeline, 29, and Dominic, 32, treated his parents to see Cirque du Soleil’s The Beatles Love followed by cocktails at The Beatles Revolution Lounge at the Mirage.

 | 02:54 pm - Bruno was on the Howard Stern this morning!

Sasha Baron Cohen stopped by the Howard Stern show this morning - in character as 'Bruno' - and told Fred he was a "silver fox." Bruno claimed he wanted to be the biggest gay Austrian celebrity since Arnold Schwarzenegger or Hitler, adding: "But Hitler wasn't gay. He was a bitch."
Bruno said he'd even once helped Arnold when he was 8oz too heavy for a competition and had to make weight: "I dropped to my knees."
Howard asked if Bruno was fully shaved, so Bruno confessed: "There's nothing on me more than this little treasure trail here." Richard and Sal then came in to show Bruno their own grooming patterns.

 | 02:14 pm - Hero of Nonfiction The Hero of Ages, by Brandon Sanderson Very satisfying conclusion to an excellent epic fantasy trilogy. If you go in for this stuff, you should definitely give the first book a try. The imaginary-RPG bones still felt like they were showing a bit but not in a bad way, and it's just the *bones* of the story, not the characterization or plot. (131/275)
The Readers' Advisory Guide to Nonfiction, by Neal Wyatt The reason I decided to read this book is because I *LOVE* Neal Wyatt's taste in books as shown through her writing for Library Journal. So it comes as no suprise that I think this book is awesome!! I don't always agree with every theoretical opinion expressed but the recommendations, annotations, and overall approach is really really excellent. Highly recommended even if you just like reading a wide variety of non-fiction for fun - EXTREMELY highly recommended for reference professionals. (Though I confess I'm not quite ready to pay $53.00 to own my own copy - hurray for libraries!) (132/275) Current Mood: productive Current Music: I have "We Built This City" in my head

During their panel discussion, Helen Slater barely got a word in, as Michael Rosenbaum and Sam Witwer did multiple celebrity impressions, talked about screen kisses, who is hottter "Lana or Chloe?", being naked a lot on the show, having to shave their bodies for their roles, what Tom Welling and John Glover are really like, the rumored "Smallville" movie, set pranks and more. Clips have been posted on YT.
Michael Rosenbaum: Those guys (at WB) have no brains. There should have been a “Smallville” movie
Sam Witwer: Kissing Allison Mack "so awesome!"

 | 12:42 pm - New Michael Jackson Game Already in the Works Hi video game and MJ fans! I didn't see this posted yet (looked back to last week), so enjoy. Really hope this game doesn't suck like some of the other half-ass'edly made music games out there.

No, it's not a cash-in on the star's untimely death. It's been in production for months and has speech recorded by Jackson himself.

 | 08:42 pm - Book 33 for 2009 Black Sheep by Georgette Heyer
I wanted something light and fluffy after the grimness of Small Island, so I turned to one of the Heyers in my "To Read" pile. I'm not a big romance reader as a rule, but Heyer is one of the exceptions. I love her books. Not intellectually stretching perhaps, but they generally do exactly what it says on the tin :-)
This one is perhaps not one her best - I found the male protagonist a bit too devil-may-care for my taste, but it's still a fun fast read, with all the usual stuff - fortune hunters, gullible young ladies, a sensible heroine and gossipy old ladies. And naturally, a happy ending :-)

 | 02:21 pm - And even though it all went wrong, I'll stand before the Lord of Song Even Leonard Cohen is sick of hearing "Hallelujah"

The song "Hallelujah" barely needs an introduction -- from Shrek to American Idol to the West Wing, various versions of the oft-covered tune have permeated our culture in a profound way. It's been an interesting progression, most of which I detailed in a column about the Leonard Cohen song last year, that has pushed the song from a once skipped-over track on a lesser-known Cohen album (1984's Various Positions) to a top-selling single on iTunes, culminating this year with Cohen's own original version of the song being featured prominently in a gratuitous sex scene in the blockbuster film Watchmen.
From Jeff Buckley to Rufus Wainwright, John Cale to k.d. lang, Jason Castro to our own Romantica, "Hallelujah" has been covered innumerable times to varying degrees of success and effect. And now, 25 years after the first recording of the song was released, Leonard Cohen is saying enough is enough.
"I was just reading a review of a movie called Watchmen that uses it," Cohen is quoted as saying in a recent interview with Guardian. "And the reviewer said 'Can we please have a moratorium on Hallelujah in movies and television shows?' And I kind of feel the same way."
"I think it's a good song, but I think too many people sing it," he says.

I know it's unpopular but idgaf, Cohen and John Cale's versions are the only ones I like. I feel like Jeff Buckley's version and the copies that followed are so one-dimensional and they don't convey the ~range of emotions~ in the original. Current Music: MSNBC

 | 10:08 am - 26, 27, 28 26/50 American Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang
I absolutely loved this! The book depicts three disparate stories: the story of the Monkey King, the story of Jin Wang an Asian-American come to live in a mostly white suburb, and a sitcom-styled story about how Danny deals with his cousin Chin-Kee (who embodies every offensive Asian stereotype under the sun; he was really repulsive). The art is amiable and the story light-hearted and funny. I've always thought (wrongly) that things that deal with racial discrimination had to be very serious about it (because racial discrimination is very serious, no matter how many people try to dismiss it as being just being a movie/a book/a bus seat). Which isn't to say that when racial discrimination appears, it doesn't hurt: just that the story doesn't want to be bogged down there, and reaches, moreover, for a universal coming-of-age story. The coming-of-age story includes discrimination, but it also includes the importance of being true to oneself. American Born Chinese shouldn't just be read to get a glimpse at discrimination against Asians, but because it is fundamentally a good story (that I'm sure I've disserviced with this poor review .____.)
27/50 The Last Olympian (Percy Jackson and the Olympians) by Rick Riordan
Finally got my hands on this! I was a little disappointed with Labyrinth and I've learned to be disappointed with series finales (Harry Potter) in general, but this book was excellent. It still has the typical Riordan flaws and a growing over-reliance on dreams to dish out background (one I hope won't be continued in the follow-up...) but when Riordan says there's a final battle, there's a final battle. The importance of that can't be understated: how many books are out there that go on and on about a looming war/battle and then just kinda wimp their way through it with the last chapter (or two, if you're lucky)? Kudos to Riordan for really sticking to that. Percy's request (you know which one) was a really nice touch.
Also, new love for Riordan's girl characters all of whom kick butt. (Riordan is a little constricted by Greek mythology in that there isn't a lot you can do to get around the fact that the goddess of the hearth is going to sit at home during this war, and also because he he didn't give a lot of thought into what each god's kid would be like. Consequently, Aphrodite's kids are obsessed with make up and Hermes' kids are all thieves and liars.)
28/50 Hammer of God (Godspeaker Book Three) by Karen Miller
I did manage to read the whole thing, but I can't recommend this book, and I can't recommend Karen Miller ever again. In fact, I will do the opposite: I recommend staying away from Miller.
( Cut for length: Problems with plot, racial politics, and gender politics )
Next: Not sure.

 | 03:03 pm - Breaking: Maura Tierney sets the record straight about her 'medical evaluation' Maura Tierney has just released a statement to clear up rumors regarding her health. Last week, NBC announced that it was delaying the fall launch of her new drama, Parenthood, while the actress underwent a "medical evaluation."
"In an effort to guard my privacy, it seems that the wording of NBC's press release has unfortunately caused some confusion and undue alarm about my health. I have discovered a tumor in my breast which requires surgery. I will not know either my exact diagnosis or course of treatment until that surgery is performed. My doctors have all assured me this is a very treatable condition. I'm very optimistic as to the outcome and want to thank everyone who has sent positive thoughts and support. I look forward to going back to work soon."

 | 01:39 pm - Part2 True Blood's Michelle Forbes Interview True Blood's Michelle Forbes on Maryann: She's Not a Villain
Sunday's revealing episode of True Blood confirmed for us that the bull-headed monster who is stalking Bon Temps' ladies and Maryann are one and the same! How does the very pleasant Michelle Forbes reconcile her sunny portrayal of Maryann, "that Ibiza party girl," with the clawed she-beast who ripped out Miss Jeannette's heart? "Maryann lives in a different moral construct than the rest of us," she says, emphasizing that Maryann doesn't think of herself as a villain. Earlier, Forbes hinted that True Blood might look like Animal Farm by the season's end. Here, she talks about becoming the monster, why Maryann does what she does and, gulp, bestiality?

Whitney Port has just shared her first-ever magazine cover on her official blog. The exclusive picture of "The City" star at two years old on the cover of Newsweek was yet another one of her parents' embarrassing photo shoots.
Whitney writes, "My parents used to love doing silly, yet slightly cheesy, portraits like this and I thought you guys would find this as hilarious as I did when I saw it :)"

 | 01:55 pm - Lady Gaga Makes Mainstream Top 40 History

Lady GaGa becomes just the third artist in the 16-year history of the Mainstream Top 40 airplay chart to collect three No. 1 songs from a debut album. "LoveGame" (Interscope) rises 2-1, marking Lady GaGa's third No. 1, following "Just Dance" (two weeks) and "Poker Face" (five weeks). The three songs appear on her top five Billboard 200 album, "The Fame." The set has sold 1,162,000 copies to date, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The singer-songwriter born Stefani Germanotta joins just two prior artists in accomplishing the triumphant triple play. In 1993-94, Ace Of Base reigned consecutively on Mainstream Top 40 with three cuts from its debut set "The Sign": "All That She Wants," the title cut (No. 1 for a chart-record 14 weeks) and "Don't Turn Around." In 2002-03, Avril Lavigne repeated the feat with a trio of tracks from her debut release "Let Go": "Complicated" (eight weeks), "Sk8er Boi" (one week) and "I'm With You" (four weeks). On the Billboard Hot 100, "Just Dance" spent three weeks at No. 1, and "Poker Face" led for one frame. As of last week, "LoveGame" was bulleted at No. 5 on the Hot 100, its highest ranking to date.

Michael's Death May Kill Jacksons' Reality Show, Not Their Ability to Profit
It would appear that nothing—not even an internationally mourned death—can stop the Jackson promotional machine from marching on. Though in one (and maybe only one) instance, it may be moving to a slightly less sensationalistic beat.
A&E is currently mulling whether to go ahead with plans to air The Jackson Family, an hour-long reality special that followed Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon and Randy Jackson in the months prior to Michael's death, sometime next year.
"We are discussing the direction of the show with the family," a rep for the network told E! News.
No additional footage has been shot since the King of Pop's sudden death last month, though network reps acknowledge that, should the show make it to broadcast, some tonal tweaks may be required.
Well, fingers crossed—after all, if there's one thing the cable airwaves are in dire need of, it's more coverage of the Jacksons.

 | 11:35 pm - Congrats Dan/Emma tinhats: evil!Harry/Hermione kiss will be in The Deathly Hallows movie
(lolzy maniped pic, i know. but that was the 1st one on Google image search :p)
Oprah.com has a feature on Emma Watson.
Some interesting tidbits:
- Ron has a vision when he sees Harry and Hermione kissing in his vision, so I'm going to have to do that for the vision. Even though it doesn't actually happen, I still have to do it. I'm going to end up kissing both of them in the last film. Ugh, it's horrible.
So, Harry/Hermione and/or Dan/Emma shippers rejoice. Looks like the kiss will be in the film.
- I'm looking forward to studying again, and riding around campus on my bicycle, and having a roommate, and just everything. The whole experience.
- When I'm at college, I'm going to be in sweats and Topshop.
lol. I'm looking forward to seeing papz pics if her in sweatpants riding her bicycle :D
